Reducing the impacts of wet processing

Less water, less chemistry, less time and less impact

Research shows it could take 68 billion litres of water in the finishing element of the 2+ billion pairs of jeans produced globally each year.  We devised a technology that can reduce that number by half.

That’s just the water uses in the finishing process – cutting, sewing and applying the final effects. Before that the cotton needs water to grow and of course, we use water to wash jeans when we wear them. Research shows a single pair of jeans can use approximately 3,800 litres of water throughout their life cycle.

Today, most denim is still treated using pumice stones, which only last a few cycles, breaking down into chemically contaminated sludge.

Our XFN technology uses patented, reusable, XOrbs to produce a broad range of outcomes to denim, from stone washing to different surface effects and shading. We work with brands and manufacturers interested in reducing the impact of the clothing they produce.

DENIM FINISHING

Revolutionising the denim wash process

Machines fitted with our patented XDrum and XOrb innovation allow a closed system to release XOrbs into
specially designed garment finishing cycles. At the end of the cycle, the XDrum collects the XOrbs back into their
storage system to be used again and again. Cycles can be programmed with or without XOrbs allowing flexibility for
multiple operations to be performed in one machine.

The mechanical action of the XOrbs drives chemistry deeper into the fibres replacing the need for pumice leaving garments
with a better handle, less creasing and “dye lines”, less damage to fibres, improved uniformity and tighter shade bands.

Our team supports brands and manufacturers to adopt the technology with technology transfer and recipe matching.

DENIM FINISHING

XFN1 halves water use and the need for pumice

Controlled testing has shown denim finishing cycles using our XFN1 technology use half the amount of water when compared to the same cycle in a conventional machine. Real-life testing in Bangladesh in March 2022 showed that 53% less water was used during the Xeros process.

These same tests proved that 32% less energy was used, and 33% fewer enzymes were needed. The cycle time was also 18% faster
when XOrbs were used.

XEROS X YILMAK

Xeros Launched New Partnership at ITMA 2023

In the denim finishing sector, Xeros are working with Yilmak, a leading supplier of garment finishing machines. The new Xeros enabled machine was launched by Yilmak at the largest global textile manufacturing show, ITMA, in 2023. In addition, through our existing licensing agreement with Ramsons, trials of our technology with multiple manufacturers are underway, making samples and jeans for a number of high street denim brands.
